Her journey began in 1968, when her father a Master Sergeant, Green Beret, and war interrogator returned from Vietnam carrying the invisible wounds of war, forever altering the course of her childhood. By age eleven, Paula experienced a devastating and unresolved loss when her mother disappeared while they were stationed in West Germany. Less than a year later, she and her two younger sisters were given less than 24 hours’ notice before being separated into foster care, an unimaginable moment that would redefine her life.
What followed was a childhood marked by uncertainty, multiple placements, and painful separation but also the beginning of an extraordinary story of resilience, survival, and transformation.
Today, Paula uses her lived experience to ignite change in systems, organizations, and individuals across the country. With authenticity, compassion, and hard-earned insight, she equips audiences from child welfare professionals and educators to foster and adoptive families with the tools to better understand trauma, connection, and the lifelong impact of their decisions.
